<International Circulation>: Could you share your perspective on the use of statins in diabetes mellitus patients?
 

Prof Marso: Statins are a key part of everyday therapy of people with diabetes. Dyslipidemia is prevalent in sixty to seventy percent of people with diabetes. They don’t have excessive LDLs but they are often on average 120-140mg/dl， where we really want to target LDLs to less than 100mg/dl. You can do that through a variety of ways， diet and exercise， but the most effective way that has been associated with improved outcomes is statin therapy. I am a huge believer in it. We need to target it. We need to be aggressive. We need to increase the dose of statins until we achieve the target LDL.
